I’m not sure how I discovered or where I first heard the album Skin and Bones by The Foo Fighters but I’ve always considered it my favourite of theirs. There’s some absolute gems on this album, essentially like a “Foos Unplugged”, paired back, mellow versions of the songs we all know and love.

Yeah, I’ve said it before – I’m not a lyrics guy. I get reminded of this often. I usually like the sound of a song more than it’s underlying message. Slings and Arrows is one such song. I’ve just opened up the lyrics in Spotify and it’s… grim.

I enjoy it when I discover that bands and artists who had massive hits also have surprising lesser known gems in their back catalogues. I enjoy it even more when those gems are either covered in other styles or, even better, are revisited by the artists themselves.
This in one such revisited gem.

The Spin Doctors exploded onto our airwaves in the early 90s with their debut album Pocket Full of Kryptonite (1991). My big bro had a copy on CD and collectively we absolutely thrashed it to death. I’d argue – for a 30+ year old album it’s still on relatively high rotation for me. It’s funky, it’s high energy, it’s poetic. I love it! But then… nothing really happened. They released another 4 albums over the next 14 years but none of them really caught my attention. Not until If The River Was Whiskey in 2013.

I was driving two thirteen year old boys around Wellington last weekend when one of them asked me to play P!nk. Teenage boys. P!nk!! He wanted to hear So What. This is obviously not that song! I threw on P!nks Greatest Hits…So Far!!! album, and suddenly remembered (as if I could forget) just how awesome she is as an artist. Three days this week I’ve woken up with this track in my head.

I love 80s music. I mean… really love 80s music. I was 3 when the 80s started and 13 by the time they ended – so incredibly formative years of my life. I’ve got a massive playlist of songs I grew up listening to, but some of the best 80s music I have discovered has come to me as an adult.

This one was tucked quietly in the end of my very first blog post here. It pre-dated the idea that I’d actually build a Spotify playlist for My ADHD Playlist. It’s an absolute anthem for me so it’s time to shine a light on it.

Once upon a while ago I was a massive Ed Sheeran fan. Not sure that I would still call myself that. I like his music, but I don’t love it in the same way that I liked his early, indie sound. But his new album is out… And it’s… Better?

Okay so Queen Bee isn’t the only one to have shower songs.
Today’s earworm was brought to you by a silly memory of a story I heard third hand about Neil Finn’s dalmatian Lester getting conjunctivitis. Allegedly the vet looked in Lester’s eyes and said “I see red, I see red, I see red.” *GROAN*
